117. The Planetscore – a sustainability label that lets organic shine (English)
Sustainability labelling: supermarkets are playing with it in France and the European Commission has formulated an ambition to develop a consumer label for sustainable food. But how to measure sustainability? There are systems available, like the product environmental foodprint, that only use a few indicators, mostly focusing on efficiency: less input per kg output means a better score. Externalities like the effect on biodiversity, animal health or soil quality are not taken up. This leads to a distorted view on what is really sustainable. The French research organisation ITAB has developed PLANETSCORE, a system that measures sustainability in a more comprehensive way. In this webinar Sabine Bonnot of ITAB will explain PLANETSCORE.
